One of the best young bands touring around this year, Dr. Dog have a couple of excellent recordings out right now (their insta-classic "Easy Beat" LP and the addictive "Takers & Leavers" EP) but live the group consistently takes their eclectic melodicism to another level. Unfortunately, in all my CMJ zig-zagging around town I missed openers the Elvis Perkins Band (another talented group) but luckily they joined Dr. Dog onstage for a couple of tunes that got the packed crowd at the Bowery Ballroom singing along. This show was definitely one of the highlights of the festival for me. Do not miss this talented Philly band when they come through your hood.
