04.03 the Mooney Suzuki @ Bowery Ballroom (Photos)

While it seems their sound is moving towards more R&B influenced classic garage away from the relentless, amps to 11 attack that made them notorious showstoppers in their early days, the Mooney Suzuki's live set is still more action packed than 95% of bands you'll see. The Mooneys treated the crowd at the Bowery Ballroom to a nice selection of tunes from their excellent (and underrated) albums and by the end of set the band showed they still have substantial live punch.

It occurred to me while I was bopping along to this show it's been about 8 years since I first saw the Mooney Suzuki blow the minds of a stunned crowd at Brownies on the lower east side. Back when Sammy & Co. were rockin' the jet-black rock action suits & shades this was the last band on Earth you wanted to see strut into your local battle of the bands competition (Want Proof? check this video: "Electric Sweat") and apparently the fire is still there - after a drunk in the crowd started to taunt the band, Sammy waded through, stuck a mic in his face and asked "What band are you in? Cause I know you're in a band... We'll be at your next show!".

As the JBs said "Take it to the stage".
