This was my eighth Yeah Yeah Yeahs show and if there’s a better live band in NYC I haven’t seen ‘em. Fucking Spectacular. Karen is a rock goddess and Nick & Brian are probably the most powerful rhythm section on Earth. The last time I saw them (a surprise gig with the Liars at Warsaw in Williamsburg) they seemed focused on their newer more moody, slower stuff. Not this time. At Hammerstein they just steamrolled through one killer song after another – no weak spots. The only problem is every time I see ‘em the crowds get bigger and bigger. We pre-gamed at a mid-town dive and by the time we got through the absurd security couldn’t get near the stage. I miss the old days at Brownies…
Next stop MSG, I guess.
