09-30 Heartless Bastards @ Mercury Lounge

I first heard these guys a while back on NPR and their album "Stairs & Elevators" has been in my CD player ever since - easily one of my favorites of '05.

Live they're even better.

The Mercury Lounge was packed with curious hipsters, bluesters, & Fat Possum junkies all waiting to get their fix of intense blues & soul flavored rock. The HBs didn’t disappoint, roaring through their set with non-stop passion & intensity. The trio (especially singer-guitarist Erika Wennerstrom) seemed to feed off the energy of the crowd & the music got stronger with every song. “Runnin” & “Will Song” especially killed and by the end the crowd was begging for more.
