09-14 CMJ Sahara Hotnights @ Scenic

This is why I love CMJ – great music up close & personal. Sahara Hotnights was one of the best sets I saw during all week. I had caught the Hotnights once before at Southpaw in Brooklyn but the unbelievably loud sound system in the steamy basement of Scenic took this set to another level. And the band matched it with non-stop passion & intensity. It was the middle of the day and the room was a third full but they played like it was a sold-out night at Irving Plaza. This is probably the best all female rock band on Earth.
I was hoping they'd play their excellent cover of the Ramone's "Rockaway Beach" but no luck. Maybe next time.
