11.07 The Hold Steady @ Webster Hall

Returning home after another marathon tour the Hold Steady set Webster Hall on fire.
Their albums “Separation Sunday” and “Almost Killed Me” have been 2 of my favorites for a while now but this was the first time I caught them live (I was supposed to catch them at CBGB during CMJ but my friends Jose & Jack had other plans for me).
Singer-Guitarist Craig Finn’s got some of the best lyrics on Earth and on stage he delivers them like a man possessed. The rest of the band is just as masterful at their tasks and the combination of all the elements is awe inspiring. Songs like “Hornets! Hornets!” & “Certain Songs” spiral up from bar band gut crunch to dizzying adrenaline highs within the space of 3 to 4 minutes. And the eclectic Webster Hall crowd sang, danced and punched their fists in the air through every ride. Awesome.
New York was not tired on this night.
