07-04 the Blood Arm @ Cinespace, Hollywood

LA band The Blood Arm have a single out called “Do I have your attention?” and they definitely got my attention as this was one of the most fun sets I’ve seen in a while. The band took no prisoners at Dim Mak Records weekly live music / dj blowout at Club Cinespace in Hollywood with frontman Nathaniel taking the show right into the middle of the crowd, repeatedly diving into the masses & walking from table to table. At one point he noticed me with my camera and walked right up to me and asked “Sir, how are you enjoying the show?” and I replied “Pretty cool so far”, he smiled, strutted back to up the middle of the stage, did a James Brownish falls to the knees and in a flash the band tore into another bouncy dance rock number that sent the front of the crowd into a wave of jerky dances & bobbing heads.
The security team wasn’t diggin’ Nathaniel’s the free flowing antics too much though, and the set ended abruptly with singer getting tackled on stage by the club staff. But in true punk style he kept singin’ through the whole thing as if it was all just part of another day at the office. This band’s combination of fearless showmanship, pulsating rhythms, and sing along hooks should appeal to any followers of the more dancey Brit-pop bands (i.e. Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party, Zutons) getting attention right now.
