Photos: 06.13 Franz Ferdinand @ Bowery Ballroom
Word on the street was this show sold out in minutes but I stopped by the Bowery Ballroom anyway as I was headed to the Knitting Factory for the Rakes show and was able to get in no problem. I hit the main floor just in time to catch Franz Ferdinand trying out some new material from their yet to be titled third album. The new songs sounded like more of the band's specialty, bouncy dance-punk and were closer in sound to the tunes on their debut than their second album.
As far as the vibe of the show the band came across as really, really gay - the band's always had a not so subtle happy gay vibe in a tongue in cheek Euro kind of way but it's grown exponentially now & perhaps comes across more so live than they intend. The real problem though was an inexplicably dull & lifeless crowd, so I continued on to the Rakes show which was much more fun.
