5p @ Fontanas - Billbones w/ Status Green

I generally avoid clubs on Sundays like the plague but this looks like a couple of good ones. Billbones hits hard with their Clash / Libertines fusion while The Photo Atlas' intense post, post-punk lives sets are not to be missed...


This show isn't listed on this flyer but it IS happening...

The Billbones crew looked & sounded rejuvenated with a new line-up and a refreshingly invigorated sound. The new tunes were especially strong, particularly the outstanding catchy Clash-Reggae of potential single "Talkin' Too Loud". Definitely check these guys out as they're playing around the city this fall.

Roaring back from hiatus Billbones looked leaner & meaner heading into '07. The set was typical Billbones - non-stop party rock and at the end the crowd rushed the staged to join the band for some dancing. The bands buzz song "American Radio" got the biggest crowd response of the night.

The guys have a show coming up on Dec 15th @ R&R (flyer) and one of their tunes is being featured in a new trailer ad for the Samsung K5. As I was rolling into this show I bumped into Billbones singer/guitarist Frank Bones and noticed he had an ominous looking cast on his left hand. He explained he'd recently been injured in an auto accident and was still on the mend so he'd be unable to play guitar for the time being. He quickly added "Don't worry we got someone to fill in, we're gonna rock anyway!". Sure enough the band hit the stage with full force as a five piece with Frank in full frontman/MC mode thrilling the screaming Sin-e crowd with a tight set including a catchy new track called "Avenue C".

Car wrecks, broken bones, rowdy fans, drunken photographers - there's no slowing these guys down!

Over the past six months Billbones has gradually evolved into one of the most consistently fun & hard rockin' acts in NYC. The band mixes together their own blend of New York via London underground rock with hard chargin' cover tunes & a take no prisoners stage show. Most shows you go see in the city people in the crowd just kinda scratch their chins and slowly nod along. But at a Billbones show you might see a 40 year old wino holding a flask while doing the twist in the front row or a couple of barely legals hooting along as they dance on a couch - it’s come as you are anything goes. There’s no posing here, just a band playing "get up, have a beer, and shake your ass!" music and the crowds seem to get larger & more energetic with every show. The band definitely vibes off their energy on stage steadily gaining momentum song by song. Tonight the usually relatively stoic & reserved bass player Mike Bones stole the show emerging from the wings to mix it up with the crowd a bit and then without warning trashing the drum kit during the finale in true Rockstar style. If you like to party & listen to Rock N' Roll this may be the band for you.
