    There's been a backlash going on against the Cold War Kids in the mainstream media with people dismissing them as just a blogger hype band with no substance, but after seeing them live again I have to wonder what the real story behind all that is. Because it should be pretty obvious to anyone who checks out the Cold War Kids live that they're an unusually talented young band with huge potential. Don't be fooled by the haters! The combination of the Picture & the Cold War Kids was just to much for the NYC hype machine to resist as the tiny band room at Pianos was filled to capacity by a crowd downtown hipsters, bloggers, celebs, and industry types all trying to get a look at the newest internet hype phenoms. Luckily there's a lot more to the CWKS's than just hype and they handled it all well delivering a riveting set filled with passionate songs. The band plays with tons of energy & when you watch you can't help but to feel like you're seeing something special. By the end it was clear to all in attendance that this band has unlimited potential - catch 'em in a small room while you still can. I heard some good buzz about the CWKs while I was in Austin for South by Southwest, and their catchy ballad "Hospital Beds" on their mySpace won me over so I was looking forward to seeing them live. Turns out they were even better live than I had ever imagined. The band delivered with high energy, great interaction with the crowd, excellent rootsy soul vocals, catchy rhythms and there's a great chemistry between the band members that you can't help but vibe off of in the crowd.
