The perfect way to end my birthday (by this point I was so bombed I could barely work my camera!). The Starlite Desperation kicked ass vampire-style at Sin-e. I've seen these guys a few times now and they always put on great shows.

The Crimea are an awesome new band from the UK. I kept bumping into them all through CMJ and was consistently blown away by their sets. They're much more powerful & intense on stage than on their EP and the crowds were lovin' it.

They're also a cool bunch of guys offstage and hooked me up with a CD after their last set at Rothko.

Definitely a band to watch out for.

I love watching shows at Rothko but it’s always pitch black and hard to get good shots unless you're practically on the stage or using a flare gun for a flash. Anyway, I hit this CMJ Day showcase and the Oxford Collapse was definitely the best band of the day. The all-ages crowd was diggin' the catchy songs, & tight, energetic performance.

My favorite part of a great night of music - I rushed over from Plaid btwn the Sun and the Von Bondies to catch a secret show by the Hentchmen. They ripped through their set throwing in some of their classics and a couple of new tunes. From the looks of things their upcoming new album should be just a good as their amazing "3 times Infinity".

My second FF show. Nothing could possibly match their incredible show at Volume in Brooklyn (FYI, Brooklyn shows are always better) but this one came close. The crowd danced and sang along from beginning to end and in NYC that's rare. They even trashed their instruments at the end in true stadium rocker style.

I still don't completely buy the whole rock as dance music thing but if anyone's doing it better than these guys I haven't heard it yet.
