09-13 Soundpool @ Pianos
I walked off Orchard St. on the Lower East side into Pianos, waded my way through the sea of heads to the back room and walked right into the Exploding Plastic Inevtitable. Ok not really, the multimedia sensory blast definitely conjured up the Velvet underground imagery but Soundpool's sound was closer to early 90's Stereolab. The crowd was diggin the impressive performance and overall this was one of the best sets I've seen in a while by a band that could be labeled "shoegaze". Soundpool has a new album out called "On High" and should appeal to fans of ambient rock.
