The Billbones crew looked & sounded rejuvenated with a new line-up and a refreshingly invigorated sound. The new tunes were especially strong, particularly the outstanding catchy Clash-Reggae of potential single "Talkin' Too Loud". Definitely check these guys out as they're playing around the city this fall.

North Carolina's Spider Bags played an outstanding set of tunes that sounded more punk than country, but a little bit of both. The set was tight with the band and crowd in high spirits throughout. Highly Recommended hards sounds for fans of everthing from the hard folk of O'Death to the southern rock of Kings of Leon.
For pure, blistering garage-punk few bands can match Boston's Tampoffs consistency, or proficiency. Now if only there was an album! (suggested title "Start the Bleeding")
Hey, I was just looking at your work, and thinking about how you evolving...and I got to thinking that it'd be interesting if you started using antiquated technologies to capture these new bands, and their fans.
Also, I'm note sure if you are familiar with the work of Ryan Mcginley (www.ryanmcginley.com)...he takes intimate portraits of his friends...it'd be interesting to see you tirn that ide on its head...as both a fan and a chronicler of a scene, you have an exclusive viewpoint and perch.
Apologies to all you Kanye vs. "Fiddy" fans out there but Pharoahe Monche's "Desire" blows either album away (to be fair though 50's best tracks never seem to be on his albums)...
2p @ Rumsey Playfield, Central Park - MF Doom w/ Pharoahe Monch, Kool DJ Red Alert, etc.
Dot Dash has been throwing some of the best garage-punk shows around for years now. Look out for the blistering fast sounds of Boston's Tampoffs to get the crowd fired up.
True story: I got completely bombed at a Von Bondies show about 5 years ago and for the good of everyone my friends stuffed me in a cab home but without my bag that had my camera in it, my phone, and a money order for my rent (!). When I went back to club to get it, the bag was gone – which especially sucked because I was too broke to replace the camera so for a while I couldn’t shoot anything. One day about six months later I get a call saying “Hey this is the Von Bondies, we found your number in this bag and it looks like there's some important stuff in it - should we mail it to you?”. It turns out the band had accidentally grabbed my bag thinking it was one of theirs and took it with them as they travelled all over. It was great – they mailed it back, nothing was missing, and I was able to get the dough back and the camera. Good Peeps - those Von Bondies.
So when they kinda disappeared for a while after their last tour – I kept thinking "that sucks, those guys are cool – I hope they didn’t break up or anything". Well, turns out they were just in the lab working on new material & recharging and at their one-off show at the Mercury Lounge it showed. The band was on fire burning through an intense set of pure Detroit rock fury with all the passion & intensity you'd expect. The Von Bondies are always excellent live & have some shows coming up with Razorlight so definitely catch that when they come your way.
