08.23 O'Death in Williamsburg (photos)
Shows like this are the reason why people who love music move to Brooklyn. Cool people willing to open their home for a fun happening with an interesting crowd and great sounds from a hungry young band on the verge of big things. I’d heard many positive things about O’Death’s live show before this night but their raging, punkish take on Americana far exceeded my expectations. The crowd sang and danced along to the swirling sounds of fiddles, foot-stomping and a singer who sounds like the Pixies Black Francis after a week-long bender. O’Death is definitely a good pick for fans of blues, folk, the Mekons, Black Francis’ post-pixies work, ’68 Comeback, or rootsy Rock in general.
